New PACE Resolution on Murdered Journalists in Palestine Moves Forward with Courage’s Support
Courage International is pleased to announce that a proposed draft resolution on the erosion of press freedom through violence against journalists in the Middle East—developed in collaboration with Dutch parliamentarian Saskia Kluit—has successfully reached the required number of signatories in record time and has now been tabled at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The motion, entitled “The Erosion of Press Freedom Through Violence Against Journalists in the Middle East,” responds to the unprecedented toll on media workers in the Israel-Gaza conflict. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 184 journalists and media workers—predominantly Palestinian—have been killed since October 2023, making this the deadliest war for journalists in modern history.
The motion reflects Courage’s strong and ongoing commitment to protecting the lives of media workers in Palestine and to addressing wider global threats to press freedom.
The tabled resolution now awaits the decision of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly to commission a full report on this urgent issue. Courage International calls on PACE to take up this matter swiftly, recognising the severe risks faced by journalists in the region and the wider implications for freedom of expression and democratic accountability.
